Strategic Recovery: Recover with purpose. Perform with greater consistency.

Recovery is a performance strategy

In demanding environments, recovery is often treated as the absence of work rather than a performance capability. This leaves people cycling between sustained effort and depletion, with little understanding of how to restore the mental and physical systems performance depends on.

Strategic Recovery gives participants a practical, evidence-based system for planning recovery before performance falls away. Across four weeks, they learn to switch off mentally, down-regulate physically and build a personal recovery rhythm that fits the realities of work and life.

What participants will learn

  • How recovery affects energy, attention, decision-making and sustained performance
  • The complementary mental and physical processes required for meaningful recovery
  • How to recognise activities that genuinely restore capacity rather than simply stop work
  • How to plan recovery across the year, the week, the night and the working day
  • How to turn insight into a realistic recovery rhythm that can be sustained

The Recovery Rocket

The Recovery Rocket is Performance Intelligence’s five-tier framework for turning recovery from a vague intention into a practical operating system. It connects longer breaks with weekly restoration, sleep and short resets during the day, helping participants understand how the layers work together. The course provides the planning tools, reflection activities and application sequence behind the model.

Course structure

Six guided lessons are released across four weeks. Each lesson takes approximately 10–15 minutes and is supported by practical activities, templates and optional resources. Participants apply the framework as they progress, test what works and build a recovery system specific to their needs.

  1. Understand strategic recovery

Recognise when pressure shifts thinking into protection and practise returning to a clearer, more deliberate state.

  1. Plan annual recovery and mini-breaks

Explore the role of meaningful breaks and begin building an annual recovery rhythm that can withstand real organisational demands.

  1. Build weekly recovery

Assess personal recovery preferences and create a balanced weekly approach using the Recovery Rocket methodology.

  1. Strengthen sleep and nightly recovery

Understand the foundations of restorative sleep and identify the most relevant opportunities to improve nightly recovery.

  1. Use micro-recovery during the day

Practise short recovery techniques and learn where they can be applied between periods of cognitive or physical demand.

  1. Bring it together

Integrate the learning into a practical plan, supported by reflection and strategies for maintaining the rhythm beyond the four weeks.

What participants leave with

  • A clear picture of their current recovery patterns and gaps
  • A guided annual and weekly recovery plan
  • A personalised mix of strategies for mental and physical restoration
  • A practical approach to sleep and recovery during the working day
  • A plan for embedding and reviewing their recovery rhythm

Who it is for

Strategic Recovery is designed for teams and cohorts operating in demanding environments, particularly where sustained workload, constant connectivity or high cognitive demand can make it difficult to switch off and restore capacity.

It is valuable for leaders and employees who want to protect long-term performance, improve the quality of their recovery and move beyond the cycle of pushing hard and recovering only when they have to.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is Strategic Recovery?

The course runs for four weeks and includes six bite-sized lessons, generally taking around 10–15 minutes each, plus practical activities.

Is the course only about sleep?

No. Sleep is one part of a broader recovery system spanning annual breaks, mini-breaks, weekly recovery practices and micro-recovery during the day.

What does strategic recovery mean?

Strategic recovery means deliberately using practices that help the mind detach from work and the body shift into a restorative state. It is planned as part of sustained performance rather than left until exhaustion.

Can it be purchased as a standalone course?

Yes. Strategic Recovery can be delivered to an organisational cohort as a standalone course or included within a broader Performance Intelligence program.

Does it include live support?

Organisational delivery can include onboarding, while optional accountability coaching webinars can be added to reinforce application.

How can results be measured?

Where appropriate, participants can complete the PQ Index before and after the course, with aggregated organisational reporting used to understand change across the cohort.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the number of participants and the level of live support required. Contact Performance Intelligence to discuss the right structure for your organisation.
